We’d like to extend a warm and grateful THANK YOU to everyone who has made donations of calendars, fabric, musical instruments… and did you get a lot of Tracy’s paint?! Muchas, muchas gracias to all of you for your support, material and otherwise!

Here’s the latest scoop on what we’ve been up to…

Frost Fest: Members & fans of AWEN & ACE donated a huge amount of paint and other materials at the Frost Fest event earlier this month. We got the word out about Focus to a whole new group of people – success!

Upstairs Studio: Thank you Snezana for braving the snow for our First Friday at Upstairs Studio! Despite the weather, there were lots of folks in attendance. It was awesome to see our artists’ work hung in the gallery alongside work of other local artists. One of our artists was able to attend and got a kick out of showing everyone his work. Hooray!

Grants: We’ll find out next week about our AK Mental Health Trust Authority grant request. Keep your fingers crossed for digital photography & fiber art equipment!!! Meanwhile, we’ve got our eyes on a few national grants as potential funding sources for other program costs.

Talkeetna show: Our Earth Day show opens on April 14th at The Hangar in beautiful downtown Talkeetna. There will be a fun gathering of Focus folks in town that night – join us for great art, gracious company, and gigantic Roadhouse cinnamon rolls! We’re focused on making work with reclaimed and repurposed materials for this show – it’s been quite a challenge but we’ve got some cool stuff in the works!

Hope Collaboration: The folks at Hope have invited our crew to participate in a group show with their Discovery Center artists. Stay tuned for more info!

New Participants: We are now serving 13 artists, who attend for a total of 42 hours per week. It’s awesome to have more people on board – it makes for more creative energy and more cool artwork. We’ve been having a blast lately getting messy with house paint and jamming out tunes in our own little band.

CC Network: This Wednesday, I’ll be presenting at the AK Care Coordination Network’s monthly meeting. We’re hoping to get a few more referrals out of this as we have room for more artists to join us.

Donations: We’re full up on paint at the moment (thanks again, Tracy!) but we could use more fabric scraps as we’re working on making small scale art quilts for our upcoming show. As always, you can drop off donations in our office. Please and Thank you!
